Stop Re-Explaining Your Project to AI: Keep the Current State in Giraffe

The cost of returning is reconstruction

Two weeks after an AI session, the conversation is still available—but the project has moved.

You now have to explain which recommendation was adopted, which date changed, which assumptions were rejected, and which questions remain unresolved. Copying the whole transcript transfers the discussion, not necessarily the current state.

A useful restart note should answer:

If those answers are already maintained, the next AI session can begin from the project rather than from a memory exercise.

Why a summary is not always enough

A static summary captures one moment. It becomes stale when a date, scope, or decision changes.

A maintained project record handles change differently:

This prevents an old summary from competing with the latest answer.

Giraffe’s explicit-save model

Giraffe keeps the useful conclusions of AI work in a human-readable Project. The user continues working in a supported assistant and explicitly saves the facts, decisions, open questions, notes, and documents that matter.

Giraffe does not automatically record or back up every conversation. That distinction is central. The Project contains selected state, not an indiscriminate transcript.

When the project changes, the same Project is updated. Current shows what applies now; Decisions shows what was adopted; Open questions shows what still needs resolution; dated history preserves replaced values.

A return-after-two-weeks example

Suppose a founder last worked on a launch plan fourteen days ago. Since then:

The restart context should be:

Current: December 1 launch; core workflow only.

Decision: Reporting feature deferred to protect QA time.

Open question: Final launch price.

History: November 15 and the earlier scope remain inspectable as prior values.

The assistant does not need every argument from the old brainstorming session to understand the project state.

The correct prompt is shorter because the record is better

Instead of writing a long handoff note, the user can ask the connected assistant to read the saved Giraffe Project first. The quality of the restart depends on the maintained Project, not on pretending that every past conversation is still current.

Cross-AI continuity can extend this model, but it is secondary. Giraffe still makes sense for someone who uses one assistant and wants a readable state outside the chat.

Keep what you figured out

Re-explaining is a symptom of missing project state. The remedy is not more transcript; it is a maintained record of the conclusions that apply now.
